 Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (July 18, 1918- December 5, 2013)

A smile brighter than the light in any room or the sun on any day. A life well lived. An example to any & all. #Madiba -Chelsea Clinton

On Thursday, an inspiring and beautiful human being by the name of Nelson Mandela took his last breath and his long journey ended here on earth, at the age of 95 years old. However, we should celebrate his life and not mourn his death! For his spirit exuded humility, forgiveness and tenacity in the face of triumph and struggle.

Thank you Madiba, for fighting for justice and freedom for others. You lived a long and full life. I love you and admire your light from God, you completed your purpose here and inspired not only me, but a generation of leaders!

They may have imprisoned his body, but they did not imprison his soul. His heart was always there for the cause, for the purpose of FREEDOM. He fought for racial equality for South Africans and became a hero for his people.  His government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid through tackling institutionalised racism, poverty and inequality, and fostering racial reconciliation.

My favorite words was from his speech when he was arrested, convicted of conspiracy to overthrow the government, and sentenced to life imprisonment in the Rivonia Trial in 1962:

South Africans protesting for the release and freedom of Mandela from prison in 1960’s.

During my lifetime I have dedicated myself to this struggle of the African people. I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.

After 27 years in prison in South Africa, Mandela fought for freedom, equality and justice for all. He went to prison a revolutionary and came out starting a Revolution of Social Change. He became South Africa’s first Black President and first elected in a fully representative democratic election in 1994.

He started a Long Walk to Freedom…..

….And created a journey for all of us to continue, to hold onto our humanity at all costs!

Nelson Mandela’s favorite poem was Invictus by William Ernest Henley and it conveyed overcoming adversity by holding onto one’s humanity, to one’s very soul:

Madiba, we love you and we will continue the fight for peace, love, and forgiveness!!

Please go see the movie Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom with Idris Elba and Naomie Harris. This film is based on Nelson Mandela’s autobiography, which chronicles his early life, coming of age, education and 27 years in prison before becoming President and working to rebuild the country’s once segregated society.

I am reminded of Mandela’s words:

I have walked that long road to freedom. I have tried not to falter; I have made missteps along the way. But I have discovered the secret that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. I have taken a moment here to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. But I can only rest for a moment, for with freedom come responsibilities, and I dare not linger, for my long walk is not ended.

True Liberation for ourselves as human beings means to have True forgiveness with no level of bitterness but love. Mandela represented that to me. I love you and your humanity Madiba! On this Sunday of rest, I honor your Long Walk to Freedom and your journey home. May your soul rest in heaven and may we continue to press forward for humanity with humility and love.

To Be Honest with Ourselves.

As I was looking at this photograph, it struck me that in this economy as young entrepreneurs, students, Generation Y and Millennials, that we have become the most vulnerable due to the reality of the environment. Yet we have not forgotten our childlike innocence about making a difference and still seeing the good in people or the change we still wish to see in this world. We are Global Walkers, Seekers of a Better Tomorrow.

Faith in a Cause and Faith in Our Purpose calls us to Make a difference in Humanity! I still Believe.

Change Humanity.

Shout! We need to be Heard.

These Lyrics from Michael Jackson‘s song, Shout, touched me in a powerful way. The man understood this world and humanity. Prolific.

Ignorance of people purchasing diamonds and necklaces
And barely able to keep the payments up on their lessons
And enrolled in a class and don’t know who the professor is
How low people go for the dough and make a mess of things?

Kids are murdering other kids for the fun of it
Instead of using their mind or their fist, they put a gun in it
Wanna be a part of a clique, don’t know who’s running it
Tragedy on top of tragedy you know it’s killing me.

So many people in agony, this shouldn’t have to be
Too busy focusing on ourselves and not His Majesty
There has to be some type of change for this day and age
We gotta rearrange and flip the page

Living encased like animals and cannibals
Eating each other alive just to survive the nine to five
Every single day is trouble while we struggle and strive
Peace of mind’s so hard to find

I wanna shout, throw my hands up and shout
What’s this madness all about?
All this makes me wanna shout
You know it makes me wanna shout
Throw my hands up and shout
What’s this madness all about?
All this makes me wanna shout, c’mon now

Problems, complications and accusations
Dividing the nations and races of empty faces, a war is taking place
No substitution for restitution, the only solution for peace
Is increasing the height of your spirituality

Masses of minds are shrouded, clouded visions
Deceptions and indecision, no faith or religion, how we’re living
The clock is ticking, the end is coming, there’ll be no warning
But we live to see the dawn

How can we preach, when all we make this world to be
Is a living hell torturing our minds?
We all must unite, to turn darkness to light
And the love in our hearts will shine

We’re disconnected from love, we’re disrespecting each other
Whatever happened to protecting each other
Poisoned your body and your soul for a minute of pleasure
But the damage that you’ve done is gonna last forever

Babies being born in the world already drug addicted and afflicted
Family values are contradicted, ashes to ashes and dust to dust
The pressure is building and I’ve had enough

I wanna shout, throw my hands up and shout
What’s this madness all about?
All this makes me wanna shout
You know it makes me wanna shout
Throw my hands up and shout
What’s this madness all about?
All this makes me wanna shout, c’mon now

I intend to open my mind and do something, WILL YOU?

Beyond No Limits.

I bear many scars, but I also carry with me moments that would not have happened if I had not dared to go beyond my limits.

The Trails in Life

I was just thinking that of all the trails in this life there is one that matters most. It is the trail of a true human being. I think you are on this trail and it is good to see. –Kicking Bird, from Dances with Wolves
